Structural safety of boats

We help manufacturers ensure the structural safety of their boats.

The structural safety of a boat is achieved through the correct design and manufacture of the boat. It is almost impossible for a boat buyer to assess a boat's structural safety.

The best way of ensuring a sufficient level of structural safety is to buy a boat whose structural safety has been properly verified and documented by a Notified Body.

Structural safety includes the following segments

  • Dimensioning of structures
  • Freeboard, stability and buoyancy
  • Layout and equipment
  • Installations
  • Steering properties

Boat turning test, the Finnish Lifeboat Institution's rescue boat PV5

The turning test was used to test the Finnish Lifeboat Institution's rescue boat PV5's self-righting and operational capability after turning over. The test was carried out in Teijo in 2008.
