Fibre reinforced plastics are excellent structural materials in many applications, but the determination of their strength values is more complicated than for other materials. The actual material values are dependent on manufacturing techniques and quality during production. The theoretical values of the design phase should be assured by testing. In addition to testing, also other types of services to support the laminate design, quality and strength analysis are provided.
VTT Expert Services Ltd performs all ASTM and ISO standard material tests for fibre reinforced plastics and sandwich structures, whether the reinforcement is glass fibre, carbon fibre or other material. Loading capacity with current equipment is up to 2MN. The instrumentation and ageing of specimen is performed according to customer needs. We test the materials also in controlled environmental conditions in a weather cabin.
