VTT Experts Services Ltd signed a letter of intent in Russia related to the export centre project of the City of Cherepovets. The letter was signed on 8 February 2017 in grand circumstance at a reception hosted by Mayor Yury Kuzin.
The other parties to the letter of intent are the Finnish cooperative General Finland, the member of which VTT Technical Research Centre also is, the development organisation of the City of Cherepovets, and the local Engineering Centre organisation representing service organisations in the technical sector.
Local industry aims to enter the EU market
The objective of the letter of intent and the project is to support the development and placing on the market of the products of local industry through long-term cooperation in product testing and certification. The project receives funding from both the city and the Russian Federation.
Cherepovets is a city with a population of around 300,000 located in the Vologda region in Russia, 500 km to east by southeast from Saint Petersburg. The best-known company in the region is the Severstal Group famous for its metal industry. There are also wood refining and food companies in the region. 50 million people live within a radius of around 600 km of the city. In addition to this market area, the local industry is aiming to enter the EU internal market with other products than just metal industry products.
Additional agreements make the cooperation concrete
The letter of intent received a concrete addition, as a cooperation agreement on the testing and certification of various industries was signed at the same reception between VTT Expert Services Ltd and OOO KIPMETSERVIS. Negotiations are currently ongoing for a suitable service package for offering QEHS certification services to local actors.
